Our beliefs shape everything.

It's the way we think, act, speak, and love one another. It's in the way we raise our families, love our community, and seek the good of others before ourselves. Here is a summary of our essential beliefs that makes Broadview Church unique. Our full statement of faith is the Baptist Faith & Message (2000).

  • The Bible is God's Word

The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God’s revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. The Bible is totally sufficient and completely authoritative for matters of life and faith. The goal of God’s Word is the restoration of humanity into His image.

  • God Is

Only one true and living God exists. He is the Creator of the universe, eternally existing in three Persons—the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit each are equally deserving of our worship and obedience. God is infinite and perfect in all His attributes.

  • The Father is God

God as Father reigns with providential care over His universe, His creatures, and the flow of the stream of human history according to the purposes of His grace. God is Father in truth to those who become children of God through faith in Jesus Christ.

  • The Son is God

Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. He is the Christ and Lord over all. In His incarnation, He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin. He is both fully God and fully human. He honored the divine law by His personal obedience, having never sinned. He died on the cross to provide us forgiveness of sins and eternal salvation. Jesus rose from the dead, ascended to the right hand of the Father, and will return in power and glory.

  • The Holy Spirit is God

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. He is supernatural and sovereign, exalting Christ, and baptizing all believers into the Body of Christ. He convicts of sin, of righteousness and of judgment. He enlightens and empowers the believer and the church in worship, evangelism, and service.

  • People are God's Treasure

God created people in His image for His glory. Mankind is the crowning work of His creation. Every human life is sacred and should be protected and valued from the beginning of life to the end. God has assigned sexuality to each person: male (man) and female (woman), and has therefore created them biologically and spiritually different, each with equal personal dignity and worth.

God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society. Marriage is the unity of one man and one woman in a lifelong covenant of companionship. The marriage relationship models the way God relates to His people.

Despite being created in God’s image, mankind, by his own free choice, sinned against God, bringing sin and death to humanity. Yet God so loved the world that He gave His Son to be our atoning sacrifice for sin. Every human possesses dignity and is worthy of respect and Christian love.

  • Salvation is by Grace Through Faith Alone

All human beings are born with a sin nature, separated from God, and in need of a Savior. Salvation involves the redemption of the whole man, and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, who by His own blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer. In its broadest sense salvation includes regeneration, sanctification, and glorification.

  • The Church is the Body of Christ

The Holy Spirit immediately places all people who have saving faith in Jesus Christ into one united spiritual body, the Church, of which Christ is the head. The primary expression of the Church is a local congregation of baptized believers who are united by the Spirit of God and fellowship of the gospel. Each true local congregation is autonomous and not merely a part of the church of God, but rather is itself the church of God.

The purpose of the Church is to glorify God by taking the gospel to the entire world and by building its members in Christlikeness through the instruction of God's Word, fellowship, service, worship, and prayer. It is the duty and privilege of every follower of Christ and every church to make disciples.

  • The Future is in God's Hands

God is actively involved in the lives and future of humanity. Through His prophets, God announced His plans for the future redemption of His people through the life, death, and resurrection of His Son. With the call of the disciples, God prepared the way for the future of His Church. In Scripture, God promised that Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory to the earth to resurrect and judge the saved and unsaved. We who believe in the Lord Jesus will reign with Him in glorified bodies in a new heaven and new earth. As the all-knowing and all-powerful Creator and Judge, God can and should be trusted today and with our future.
